Ride Difficulty Levels
To help riders choose the right tour for their goals and fitness level, PurpleVelo categorizes all rides across five difficulty levels:
Level 1 - Leisure
Description: Gentle, mostly flat terrain with scenic and cultural stops
Distance & Elevation: Up to 40 km/day, minimal climbing
Rider Profile: Beginners, casual riders, families
Level 2 - Moderate
Description: Rolling terrain with occasional climbs, suited for active lifestyles
Distance & Elevation: 40–70 km/day, moderate elevation
Rider Profile: Weekend warriors, recreational cyclists
Level 3 - Challenging
Description: Hilly or mountainous terrain with multiple climbs per day
Distance & Elevation: 70–100 km/day, 1,000–2,000 m elevation
Rider Profile: Fit cyclists with regular riding experience
Level 4 - Hard
Description: Multiple high passes or technical segments, sustained effort required
Distance & Elevation: 100–130 km/day, 2,000–3,000 m elevation
Rider Profile: Seasoned riders, experienced club cyclists
Level 5 - Epic / Endurance
Description: Ultra-endurance level rides with high elevation, long hours in saddle
Distance & Elevation: 130+ km/day, 3,000+m elevation
Rider Profile: Ultra riders, Ironman athletes, elite cyclists
Note: For rides rated Level 4 or 5, all participants are required to present a valid medical certificate from a licensed physician, confirming they are fit to participate in high-endurance physical activity. Safety is non-negotiable at PurpleVelo.
